On the evening of March 4, the one and only, Nigel Barker stopped in Houston at Brazos Bookstore to talk and promote his new book, Models of Influence. To say I was excited is an understatement indeed 🙂 Nigel is a world-renowned fashion photographer, former judge of America’s Next Top Model (17 seasons), host of The Face, spokesperson, filmmaker, former model, author, husband and father.
I arrived super early because we all know that Houston traffic is crazy and there was no way that I was going to be late and not get a parking place or good seat. This was my first visit to Brazos Bookstore and loved it! It is a small independent bookstore up in Houston and such a lovely place and with a great staff. Nigel arrived a bit before 7pm – he had just flown in from Austin. I must say that Nigel appears very funny and honest on tv, and on his many social media accounts, but in person he is even funnier. His talk started with his youth and his mum, then his years modeling before turning to photography and then he hit on several models by specific decades. I found his brief discussion of several of the models in the book and how they broke “ground” very fascinating. In the midst of his talk, Neal Hamil, a huge Houston model agent walks in and sits right next to me. Neal and Nigel know each other of course! All to soon, Nigel was forced to end his talk so he could have time to autograph all the books. I left the event excited, not just from meeting him, but also with a renewed energy to be more creative in my own photography. I feel it is my job not just to photograph my clients, but also to show them how they can be photographed in new and different perspectives.
Thank you Nigel! For an evening filled with great company (I made a new friend), a wonderful talk on modeling, fashion and how the public can influence both now, and an extra lift in creativity.
Yep! That is me on the left with the one and only, Nigel Barker 🙂
