Hugo Ortega ~ James Beard Award-Winning Chef | Houston Friendswood Editorial Portrait Photographer

Earlier this year, Houston-based chef, Hugo Ortega, was honored with the 2017 James Beard Foundation Best of the Southwest award after being a nominee for several years.   Earlier this summer, I had the pleasure of photographing Hugo and Dirk Van Tuerenhout, a Curator of  Anthropology with the Houston Museum of Natural Science for an upcoming program they will jointly lead for the Archaeological Institute of America, Houston Society.  AIA Houston produces a wide array of programs throughout the year to educate the general public on various cultures and topics for a better understanding of our past and our future.   One upcoming program scheduled for April 2018, entitled “In an Aztec Kitchen”, will be led by Mr. Ortega and Mr. Van Tuerenhout.

All the images were shot on location at Mr. Ortega’s restaurant, Hugo’s, on Westheimer Rd. here in Houston.  Many thanks to the entire staff at Hugo’s, as well as, Becky Lao, Director of AIA Houston Society.
