Meet Kat Clemons, the new Development Coordinator for Bay Area Turning Point. Kat walked into the studio with the confidence of an old soul and rocking her signature red lips. She danced and we laughed…. a lot!

Kat Castro Clemons is a native Houstonian, a wife, a mother of two and serves as the Development Coordinator at Bay Area Turning Point, an agency advocating for the end of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. For the last eight years, Kat has worked in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors helping seniors with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, younger adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities and now as a fundraiser for one of the few shelters in the Houston Metropolitan area.
Kat studied at the New College of California and went to high school at The High School for The Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. As a child raised by a single parent, feminism came naturally to Kat. Helping others and being politically active has been a gradual progression in her career from canvassing for California Peace Action in San Francisco, to working with at-risk teen mothers, to then with a non-profit that helps folks with special needs.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Kat thrives for equality for all and believes that regardless of race, class, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation or nationality,
“We are all human and should be treated with kindness and fairness. But under the current administration, I believe women’s reproductive rights are under attack, climate change is being denied and health care is about to be taken away from the neediest Americans. So, I believe we have to continue to stand up, speak out, show up and be bold to make sure those in office hear what their constituents want.”
Kat also serves as the Sgt. at Arms of the Clear Lake Area Toastmasters, the Chair for the Diplomats Committee at the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, is a member of Texas Democratic Women of Harris & Galveston Counties, Southwest Democrats, Tejano Democrats and is a sustaining member for the Harris County Democratic Party & Galveston County Democratic Party. As the new President for ROADwomen (River Oaks Area Democratic Women), she hopes to grow the organization in ways that truly reflect the beautiful diversity of our city and be a part of inspiring young women to throw their hat in the ring and start running for office!
For all of this and more, Kat fits beautifully into my WONDER WOMEN Series.
