Introducing the 2014 Heartthrob “The Surgeon” | Go Red For Women Bay Area Houston Editorial Photographer

Ok ladies it is that time again!   The annual Bay Area Houston Go Red For Women Luncheon February 28 here in Clear Lake, Texas.  Each year the luncheon brings attention to the American Heart Association’s mission to educate everyone in the nation that heart disease is the #1 killer of women.   Yes the #1 killer, more than all forms of cancer combined.  It is a silent killer that sometimes strikes and there is no second chance.  Most people do not even know the signs of a heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, etc.   And most women do not even take the time to go to the doctor if there is a sign.

How Does the American Heart Association Spend Its Money?
The AHA performs four fundamental activities:
1. It discovers, processes, and interprets science.
2. It communicates cardiovascular science, medical, and consumer health information.
3. It is an advocate at federal, state, and community levels.
4. It generates resources.

We here in the Bay Area Houston have looked for innovative ways to reach out into the community to reach as many people as possible.  The Heartthrobs are local professional men who want to aid in our reach into the community.  These men put themselves in the spotlight to bring awareness to as many people as possible in the quest to education women about the issues of heart disease and to raise money for further research, education and advocacy by the American Heart Association.  Each heartthrob is a sponsored position.

This year our first heartthrob is  The Surgeon – yes the title is a repeat, but not the man.

Walter O’Hara, MD is The Surgeon

Dr. O’Hara works out of the Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital where he is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.  Dr. O’Hara attended medical school in Virginia then a residency in Macon, Georgia followed by a fellowship in Jackson, Mississippi.

I photographed Dr. O’Hara this past November on location at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas at the Circuit of The Americas.  It was a gloriously beautiful day in Austin for a heartthrob shoot!
