Hillary reached out to me in June 2019, unabashedly admitting that she had never had a professional headshot, but she was starting an epic new job and she wanted to showcase her strength and professionalism. Hillary was also keeping a little secret… She was pregnant with her 2nd child when I photographed her.

Prior to the shoot we talked about color choices and jewelry so we were both clear on what we wanted for her look. I always work with my clients before the shoot so we know the specific look or looks they want to convey. The brand look encompasses everything from jewelry, hair, clothes, and yes even the color of the backdrop or the location.
There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”

Reigning from Chicago, this Texas transplant has found her way into a career field that not only brings joy and satisfaction, but positively impacts community. Hillary Gramm has devoted her 15 year career to the non-profit sector, specifically serving at-risk youth. She began her career with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston where she matched mentors with children from single-parent homes. From there Hillary moved to Communities In Schools – Bay Area which is where I first met this spirited woman. At CIS, Hillary provided direct social services to students in an elementary school and later on moved into the fundraising role for the organization.
Hillary fits powerfully into my Wonder Women series as she has a strong desire to do more to bring meaningful programming to young people, especially. Young people are expected to have wisdom and skills upon their 18thbirthdays, yet they are left to discover these life skills and virtues all on their own.
August 2019 was a turning point literally for Hillary. A new organization was being built with Hillary’s help. Higher Up Texas‘ aim is to provide young people with these life skills that the school systems never truly work into their curriculum. Hillary had signed on to be their new Executive Director and captain to steer the organization from conception to reality and beyond.
Hillary explains HUT’s mission in her own words,
“HUT develops critical thinking and life skills through experiences, guest speakers, and daring ideas! HUT students are taught how to write checks, avoid financial scams, understand interest rates, register to vote, recognize and appreciate cultures, etiquette, contribute back into their communities, and so much more. Our students are better equipped for success in their desired career paths. Our aim is to have them think first before making major decisions.”
